Contemporary Design Inspired by Algerian Cultural Roots
This ground-up hotel is located in the coastal city of Oran in the north west of Algeria. Its design celebrates the rich cultural roots of the city that was once founded by Moorish traders, captured by the Spaniards, conquered by the Ottomans and ruled by the French. The interior is inspired by ancient calligraphy documents, local cartography and rituals, which also influenced the contemporary art installations on display throughout the hotel. The triple-height glass lobby features two large tensile structures that serve as intimate lounges welcoming guests upon arrival. Tents similar in shape can be found in grand local weddings.
